Born in Nice in 1968, Bertrand Bonello is a multi-talented artist working as a director, composer, actor, and screenwriter. Following his 1996 documentary Qui je suis - D’après Pier Paolo Pasolini, his feature debut Quelque chose d'organique (Something Organic, 1998) premiered at the Berlin Film Festival. Le Pornographe(The Pornographer, 2001) won the FIPRESCI prize at the Cannes Film Festival’s Critics' Week. Bertrand Bonello's films have consistently earned critical acclaim, particularly at the Cannes Film Festival, with De la Guerre (2008) and Zombie Child (2019) selected for the directors' Fortnight. Three of his features have been selected for the Official Competition: Tiresia (2003), L'Apollonide, Souvenirs de la Maison close (House of Tolerance, 2011), which received eight César nominations, and Saint Laurent (2014), which garnered ten César nominations and was chosen to represent France at the Academy Awards.
Between feature films, Bertrand Bonello regularly directs short films and musical works: Cindy, The Doll is Mine (2005) with Asia Argento, Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival, My New Picture (2007), Where The Boys Are (2010), Ingrid Caven, Musique et Voix (Ingrid Caven: Music and Voice, 2012), all presented at Locarno, and Sarah Winchester, Opera Fantôme (Sarah Winchester, Phantom Opera, 2016), created for the 3rd season of the Paris Opera.
He presented Coma at the Berlin Film Festival in 2022 and his latest feature film, La Bête (The Beast) with Léa Seydoux and George Mackay, was in competition at the 2023 Venice Film Festival.
