Joel (Jim Carrey) and Clementine (Kate Winslet) meet one winter day on a Montauk beach and share a romance that lasts a few months. After their breakup, Clementine seeks the help of Dr. Mierzwiak (Tom Wilkinson) to erase all memories of their time together. When Joel discovers her decision, he opts for the same procedure but ultimately changes his mind mid-treatment. Joel attempts to resist the memory erasure, embarking on a surreal game of hide-and-seek within the fragmented landscape of his own mind.
